Public Practice and Diversity Special Interest Group (SIG)
The Public Practice and Diversity SIG is a forum for EMDRIA members working in community mental health and public practice agencies. Our clients are usually people of color, and/or poor people, and often those who feel disenfranchised from the mainstream of society. These clients are often victimized repeatedly in their lives and, accordingly, they require special supports within agency settings, if they are to be successfully engaged and treated with EMDR.
It is the purpose of the Public Practice and Diversity SIG to focus on the needs of these clients and to support the implementation of EMDR treatment into community mental health and non-profit agencies. We see this as imperative if EMDR is to be available to all, without reference to race, income, insurance, diagnosis, or location.
We are also seeking ways to actively recruit, enlist, and make affordable training and education to local community professionals, so that more qualified practitioners from diverse backgrounds may join our ranks and leadership and contribute their own expertise.
It is our purpose to provide a forum for these special interests and concerns and build a stronger movement within EMDRIA and the larger EMDR community for the meaningful development of EMDR in community settings.
Please join us in helping to make EMDR universally accessible to all clients. We can accept no less in the struggle for equal access to quality treatment and the promotion of diversity within EMDRIA.
Our SIG’s primary method of communication is through our listserv. We also meet annually at the EMDRIA Conference.
You must be a member of EMDRIA to participate in this SIG and listserv. For more information or to join the Public Practice and Diversity SIG, please contact the Chair of the SIG, David Eliscu, at david.eliscu@snet.net or (203) 624-6737.
