Board of Directors
Sara Gilman, MFT
President

Sara Gilman, MFT is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist since 1986, having graduated with a Masters of Science degree in Clinical Psychology from California State University at Fullerton.  She has been in private practice since 1983 specializing in the areas of Substance Abuse, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Performance Enhancement for business professionals and athletes and other performers.  Ms. Gilman is a Fellow, American Academy of Experts In Traumatic Stress, an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, a Master Practitioner of NLP and a Board Certified Hypnotherapist.  She is also Board Certified in Forensic Traumatology and has testified as an expert witness and treating therapist in numerous cases involving trauma and PTSD. Ms. Gilman was a San Diego Firefighter for 4 years and served on the Critical Incident Debriefing Team for 10 years.


Uri Bergmann, Ph.D.
President Elect

Uri Bergmann, Ph.D., is in full-time private practice, in Commack and Bellmore, N.Y. He is an EMDR Institute Senior Facilitator and Presenter and an EMDR International Association Approved Trainer and Consultant. Dr. Bergmann is currently serving on the board of directors of the EMDR International Association. He is a lecturer and consultant on EMDR, the neurobiology of EMDR and the integration of EMDR with psychodynamic and  ego-state treatment. He has authored and published journal articles and book chapters on the neurobiology of EMDR and serves on the Editorial Advisory Boards of Traumatology and the Journal of EMDR Practice and Research.  He has been awarded board certification in Clinical Social Work (American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work), Behavioral Medicine (International Academy of Behavioral Medicine, Counseling and Psychotherapy) and Pain Management (American Academy of Pain Management).


Gary Peterson, M.D.
Secretary

Dr. Peterson is a psychiatrist in private practice in Chapel Hill, NC at the Southeast Institute for Group and Family Therapy doing individual and family therapy, psychopharmacology, teaching and clinical consultation. He is known for his ability to synthesize information from a wide variety of sources and to present them with clarity and skill.

He is Board Certified in Psychiatry and Child Psychiatry; Distinguished Fellow, American Psychiatric Association, and Fellow, American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.


Dr. Peterson is an EMDRIA Certified Therapist, Approved Consultant and Regional Coordinator. In addition, he is a member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of EMDR Practice and Research. Since 1998 he has served on numerous EMDRIA committees. In 2007, he received EMDRIA’s Outstanding Contribution & Service Award.


Stephen LaMotte, Ph.D.
Secretary Elect

Stephen LaMotte, Ph.D. is a licensed Psychologist in private practice since 1983. He received his Ph.D. from California School of Professional Psychology and completed Basic EMDR Training in 1995. Dr. LaMotte is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant and is a Regional Coordinator. He was a member of the Regional Coordinating Committee from 2005 until his Board term in 2009. In addition to EMDR, his specialties include psychological testing, pain management, rehabilitation psychology, behavioral medicine, and hypnotherapy.


Terry Becker-Fritz, MS, RN, CS
Director

Terry Becker-Fritz, MS, RN, CS is an Advanced Practice Nurse specializing in treating young children through adults who have experienced severe and early trauma. She has over 35 years in the mental health field working in most practice settings both as a clinician and director of mental health services. She currently is in full time private practice in the Columbus, Ohio area. She uses EMDR on a daily basis and has done so since her initial training in 1992. Terry has been active in EMDRIA serving as Chair of the Membership Committee for the past 5 years and helped start the Child/Adolescent SIG serving as Executive Chair for 6 years. She has provided many workshops on use of EMDR with children & adolescents at past EMDRIA conferences and consults with professionals seeking their Certification nationwide. Terry has been married to her husband Bill for 28 years and they have a daughter, Kadie, who is in her first year of the PsyD program at Spaulding University in Louisville, KY.

 


Warren Faber, Ph.D.
Director

Warren Faber, PhD is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University and has been in private practice in Cleveland, Ohio since 1980. He has taught at both the undergraduate and graduate level and is a retired school psychologist with more than 30 years of experience in the schools.  He currently has a general psychological practice with adults, specializing in posttraumatic stress disorder, grief and loss issues and has worked extensively with individuals in addiction recovery.  Warren incorporates mindfulness and a holistic model of healing.  He is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant and Certified Therapist as well as a Facilitator for the EMDR Institute and EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Program.


Dorothy Hyde, LCSW, DCSW
Director

Dorothy Hyde is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in full time private practice in Hicksville and Northport, New York. During more than 25 years in practice, she has had a variety of professional experiences which has included; Administration, College Teaching and Field Instruction Supervision. She created and co-hosted the talk show "Visions"that was aired on Public Radio.

Dorothy is an EMDRIA Certified Therapist and Approved Consultant. Before being elected a Director, Dorothy served on the EMDRIA Membership Committee.


Sandra Kaplan, LCSW
Director

Sandra Kaplan, LCSW, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, with a strong academic teaching and clinical background.   Since being trained in EMDR in 1994, she has been committed to practicing EMDR, consulting with EMDR therapists, and teaching EMDR.  For many years, now as a Clinical Professor, she has taught the EMDR Basic Training Course as an elective in the Department of Psychiatry, UpstateMedicalUniversity at Syracuse, one of the first and one of the few EMDR courses taught in a medical university.  Before that she taught mental health paraprofessionals and social workers at the undergraduate level and now is Professor Emerita in Human Services.  She has volunteered as a Facilitator for EMDR-HAP in India and Nepal, and she has been a Facilitator for the EMDR Institute in the US, Canada and France.  She has served on the EMDRIA Standards and Training Committee and has been a Regional Coordinator, receiving an EMDRIA award for Outstanding Regional Coordinator.  She co-authored The Therapeutic Interweave in EMDR:  Before and beyond, A manual for EMDR Trained Clinicians, to help clinicians be more creative and flexible in their therapeutic work. 

 

 


Amy Konkle, M.D.
Director

Dr. Amy Konkle is a graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine and completed her psychiatric residency training there.  She currently has an outpatient private practice in Indianapolis treating adults with the full range of psychiatric disorders, with a special focus on trauma.  She is an EMDRIA approved Certified Therapist, Approved Consultant, and Provider of Basic Training in EMDR.  She is a Volunteer Faculty Member of the Department of Psychiatry at Indiana University School of Medicine.  During her thirty-five years of practice, Dr. Konkle has worked in a variety of settings, in-patient and out-patient.  She was a co-founder of the Indiana Psychiatric Consortium, and was Chair for the Department of Psychiatry for St. Vincent Hospital for ten years.  She is also a Certified Practitioner of Psychodrama, Sociometry and Group Psychotherapy.


Sharon Rollins, MS, LPC
Director

Sharon Rollins earned her Master of Science degree in Educational Psychology from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. As a recipient of the Rotary Ambassadorial Year Scholarship, she also spent 1998 studying at Massey University in Palmerston North, New Zealand. She has worked for over 15 years as a Licensed Professional Counselor in a public counseling agency within a Federally Qualified Health Center and Family Practice Residency Program. She counsels children, adolescents, and adults at the center.  Sharon is both EMDRIA Certified and an Approved Consultant. She serves her local EMDR community as a Regional Coordinator. Prior to serving on the Board of Directors, Sharon served on the Standards and Trainings Committee.  She served as President of the EMDRIA Board of Directors in 2009.


Kate Wheeler, Ph.D., APRN, FAAN
Director

Kate Wheeler is a professor of nursing at Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut.  She has practiced as an advanced practice psychiatric nurse specializing in trauma for the past 25 years. She is board certified as a Clinical Specialist in Adult Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing and a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.  She has additional certifications in EMDR, psychoanalysis and psychotherapy, and hypnosis.  Kate has served on EMDRIA’s Research and Conference Committees and is on the Editorial Board for the Journal of EMDR Practice and Research. She is the author of an award-winning book, Psychotherapy for the Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurse, which is based on Adaptive Information Processing as a framework for psychotherapy practice.  She has also received awards from the American Psychiatric Nurses Association for Excellence in Practice and Excellence in Education.  Kate is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and a Distinguished Alumni of Cornell University-New York Hospital School of Nursing where she received her BSN. She received her M.A. and Ph.D. in nursing from New York University.
